At Build-Smart we are committed to introducing you to better, smarter
ways of designing, building or renovating your home. Our mandate is to
secure distribution or OEM rights to innovative building products and
technologies in order to offer you, the consumer, high-value,
turn-key alternative solutions to conventional building practices.
Build-Smart offers both retail & wholesale sales to consumers,
contractors and developers. We not only supply products but offer
in-house or sub-contracted installations, testing and warranty
certification on all the products we sell. Through various partnerships
with third party vendors & contractors we strive to provide
integrated, one stop solutions for your home or business.

Build-Smart started
out as a dream for founder Benoit Maneckjee a decade ago while he was
still working within the Canadian IT software sector. Benoit got the bug to build his
family an innovative, energy efficient home and found the market
lacking. Need being the
mother of invention, he founded the company in
2001 after negotiating an exclusive distribution agreement for Nexans heating cables within Newfoundland
and Labrador. Four new product lines over 800
satisfied customers later, the company carved out a niche for itself
within the electric in-floor heating industry and earned itself a
reputation as Canada’s
highest per capita supplier of the technology within the residential
primary heat market.
As of the fall of
2009 Build-Smart is no longer representing Nexans
heating cables and has started distributing ThermaWire™
heating cables and mats instead from ThermAtlantic
Energy Products Inc.
Benoit Maneckjee, founder and president,
is responsible for researching new products, prototyping new building
systems, establishing product representation, training contractors and

Many of the challenges of selling innovative products in any market
include research, prototyping, testing, creating consumer and industry
awareness, education, potentially long sales cycles and the high level of
service and attention required to ensure the new products are being
installed and used properly. Having said all that, the decision maker is
the end-user of our products - not the contractor or the developer. It is
therefore our aim to offer our product directly to the consumer by
working along-side contractors and developers as the best means of
ensuring responsive sales quotes, followed through with coordinated
installations and prompt service. Over time as new products become more
widely accepted we begin to see a welcomed increase in wholesale business
from building professionals already experienced with our products and installation
practices.
It is our goal to recruit and train a
modest but effective network of independent contractors & developers
across Atlantic Canada. We are now actively looking for partnerships in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick
and Prince Edward Island as well as
interest for the rest of Canada.
